Abstract

This article presents a new reading of the novel Apocalypse cum figuris by Luisa Josefina Hernández. This text, awarded in 1982 with the renowned Xavier Villaurrutia Prize, has been almost forgotten. This situation could be the result of little access to the novel coupled with its allegorical nature. The few studies on it correctly base their analyses on the interpretation of its multiple symbols, contextualizing them within one or more religious traditions. My article leaves aside this symbolism and its references and proposes a reading of the world imagined by Hernández from a posthumanist perspective. In the text, the human and the non-human closely coexist in their pilgrimage towards the end of time. This proposal by its author turns the novel into a rara avis of Mexican apocalyptic literature and gives it a critical relevance today.
