Apuntes para una lectura gótica de Boquitas pintadas de Manuel Puig

Abstract

Based on the concept expressed by Fred Botting, a specialist in Gothic literature, that the Gothic is not restricted to a specific literary movement nor to a literary-historical period, but rather implies the presence of certain characteristics of the work in question, I analyze the aspects of Manuel Puig's novel Boquitas pintadas that, in my opinion, allow for a Gothic reading of this work. Among them are Puig's stylistic proposal with this novel, the transgressions of the characters against the norms of behavior expected by their society, and the questioning of the parameters of conduct that arises as a result of these transgressions.
